Why agencies rely on video training: Fast TYPO3 onboarding without wasting time
Have the article read aloud.
Senior developers solve complex problems, new colleagues learn TYPO3 basics in a structured way - this is how win-win onboarding works in modern agencies.
Conversations at TYPO3 Camps and Developer Days have clearly shown me one thing: Agencies are looking for efficient ways to train new employees in TYPO3.
"We've hired a new developer," one agency manager told me. "He knows PHP and HTML, but TYPO3 is new territory for him. At the moment, he needs intensive support from our senior developer - several hours a day." A scenario that I have heard again and again in different variations.
The challenge of onboarding
In many agencies, onboarding is based on the principle of "learning by doing". The new colleague looks over the experienced developer's shoulder, asks questions and gets to know the agency-specific working methods. Sounds sensible at first.
The challenge: intensive training ties up valuable resources in ongoing projects. Several weeks of daily support mean that a productive employee actually achieves significantly less. This quickly adds up to several thousand euros - costs that are often not calculated.
Video training as a game changer
Several agencies have told me how they have solved this problem: They use my TYPO3 13 video training as basic training. The new employee works through the course independently for the first 2-3 weeks - not just watching videos, but also working practically with the examples shown.
The training is based on the current TYPO3 version and new videos are added when important updates are made. The course is also available in English for international teams. This ensures that knowledge is always up to date.
The result: instead of starting from scratch, the colleague starts with a sound basic knowledge. This allows senior developers to concentrate on what they do best - solving complex problems - while new colleagues learn the TYPO3 basics in a structured and independent manner. The subsequent familiarization with agency-specific workflows only takes a few days instead of several weeks.
Practical learning with support
New employees are not left alone with questions: Masterclass participants can ask their questions in the regular live sessions. A forum and an internal Slack channel are also available. This combines independent learning with professional support.
"But we do a lot of things differently"
I often hear this objection. Yes, every agency has its own standards, templates and working methods. But that's exactly why the system works so well: the video training teaches the TYPO3 basics - installation, backend operation, TypoScript basics, Fluid templates. You build the agency-specific features on this.
An employee who knows how TYPO3 works will understand your internal processes much more quickly. Instead of explaining "This is the backend", you can say directly "This is how we use our custom extension".
Practical test passed
The agencies I have spoken to confirm the experience. werkraum Digitalmanufaktur writes: "Very well prepared material on TYPO3 13 - the video training is primarily used by us for training and further education and is perfectly suited for this."
An additional advantage: each employee receives their own access and can complete the training at their own pace. Whether in German or in English for international teams - you can keep track of the learning progress and know exactly when to start familiarizing yourself with your specific workflows.
The calculation works out
Professional video training versus several thousand euros in working time costs - the math is simple. What's more, the training can be used as often as you like and graduated prices make it even more attractive for teams.
For agencies, I recommend the TYPO3 13 Masterclass. With over 35 hours of video material, regular live sessions and direct support, it also covers advanced topics that are important in day-to-day agency work: Multilingualism, protected areas and editorial workflows.
Feedback from agencies shows that video training does not replace individual workflows, but it creates the perfect basis for them. New employees start with knowledge instead of question marks - and that makes all the difference.
Save yourself weeks of training time and let your new employees start with a solid TYPO3 foundation.

Hi, I'm Wolfgang.
Since 2006, I've been diving deep into the fascinating world of TYPO3 - it's not only my profession, but also my passion. My path has taken me through countless projects, and I have created hundreds of professional video tutorials focusing on TYPO3 and its extensions. I love unraveling complex topics and turning them into easy-to-understand concepts, which is also reflected in my trainings and seminars.
As an active member of the TYPO3 Education Committee, I am committed to keeping the TYPO3 CMS Certified Integrator exam questions up to date and challenging.
But my passion doesn't end at the screen. When I'm not diving into the depths of TYPO3, you'll often find me on my bike, exploring the scenic trails around Lake Constance. These outdoor excursions are my perfect balance - they keep my mind fresh and always provide me with new ideas.
