Multilingual websites are mandatory for many projects - but the effort involved can quickly get out of hand. Especially when content is regularly updated or has to be maintained in several languages. This is exactly where the TYPO3 extension autotranslate comes into play. In my latest YouTube video, I show you how you can automatically translate your TYPO3 content at the touch of a button - using the DeepL API.

I now use the extension in several live projects, including more complex setups with masks, content blocks or custom tables. It is important that you set up a few things correctly: store the API key, specify supported tables, define fields and configure the ISO codes of the target languages correctly. Sounds time-consuming at first, but it can be done in just a few minutes.

Particularly exciting: with batch translation, you can translate existing content in one go - even entire page trees. Ideal for larger projects that are to be published in several languages. And if you want to fully automate it, the whole thing can also be done via cronjob or CLI.

In the video, I show you step by step how the whole thing works. There are also possible stumbling blocks, e.g. with your own content elements with IRRE elements, and how to integrate them cleanly. If you are using TYPO3 12, you will also need to create an SQL file - I will also explain this in detail.

If you manage TYPO3 projects where translation is an issue, you should definitely take a look at autotranslate. It not only saves time, but also ensures consistent translation across all content - without copy & paste.

Hi, I am Wolfgang.

Since 2006, I've been diving deep into the fascinating world of TYPO3 - it's not only my profession, but also my passion. My path has taken me through countless projects, and I have created hundreds of professional video tutorials focusing on TYPO3 and its extensions. I love unraveling complex topics and turning them into easy-to-understand concepts, which is also reflected in my trainings and seminars.

As an active member of the TYPO3 Education Committee, I am committed to keeping the TYPO3 CMS Certified Integrator exam questions current and challenging. Since January 2024, I am proud to be an official TYPO3 Consultant Partner!

But my passion doesn't end at the screen. When I'm not diving into the depths of TYPO3, you'll often find me on my bike, exploring the picturesque trails around Lake Constance. These outdoor excursions are my perfect balance - they keep my mind fresh and always provide me with new ideas.
