OpenAI's o1-preview: A new era for complex problem solving?

The model has achieved impressive results in initial tests. In challenging tasks in physics, chemistry and biology, it achieved results comparable to those of doctoral students. In the qualifying test for the International Mathematical Olympiad, the new thinking model solved 83% of the tasks correctly, while the previous GPT-4o only managed 13%. It also showed outstanding skills in programming competitions, reaching the 89th percentile in Codeforces competitions.

Although o1-preview does not yet offer all the features of ChatGPT, such as searching the web or uploading files, it is a big step forward for complex thinking tasks. OpenAI has also developed a new security approach that uses the models' reasoning capabilities to better understand and comply with security policies. In difficult jailbreaking tests, the new model performed significantly better than its predecessors.

My first tests with the new model were very impressive. The depth and precision with which it tackles complex problems is fascinating. I think this is a great development and I'm excited to see where the journey takes us.
