Community Hub Supporter in conversation: Kay Strobach
Have the article read aloud.
The Community Hub for TYPO3 is a forum that I created to connect TYPO3 fans. As a platform for exchange, it brings together people who love, use and develop TYPO3. Knowledge, experience and ideas flow together here - all thanks to the financial support of dedicated Community Hub Supporters.
As a supporter, you make more than just a financial contribution. You make it possible for the TYPO3 community to network and exchange ideas. Thanks to your support, I can continue to develop and maintain the forum, which in turn benefits all TYPO3 users. Interestingly, valuable collaborations have already developed between members through the hub - a nice side effect of the shared exchange.
In this series of interviews, I will introduce you to the people who keep the Community Hub alive with their support. You'll find out who they are, what drives them and why they are committed to TYPO3.
Today in conversation: Kay Strobach.
Kay, who are you and what do you do for a living? Tell us a bit about yourself and your path, and how you came to TYPO3.
Hi, I've been using TYPO3 since 2002, before I graduated from high school. I've worked in many teams during that time. I am currently the CIO at 4viewture GmbH via my partner company fucodo GmbH.
I came to TYPO3 at school. I was in the computer science club there and, in addition to many exciting network topics, it also dealt with the school website.
What do you offer and what is your focus? What exactly makes your offer special?
We offer various services related to TYPO3. Especially a lot of consulting. We work a lot with GOV and NGOV and also use Flow and other components from the PHP universe.
We are currently adding AI features to our events4viewture product.
How did you find out about the Community Hub?
Mail from Wolfgang 😅
What prompted you to support the Community Hub?
Früher™️ there were the mailing lists, unfortunately they were very loud. Through the forum, you can give back knowledge and at the same time create a knowledge repository. The current TYPO3 Slack is great for quick exchange, but rather unfavorable for a permanent source of information.
Is there a TYPO3 feature or extension that makes your life easier? What excites you about it?
Code quality, Composer and so much more. I don't know where to start.
Which project do you immediately think of when you look back on your work? What makes it special for you?
Among other things, the SchulCMS in Saxony, it was one of my biggest projects and had a lot to do with EXT:themes and EXT:sitemgr. I'm happy to see such great old instances that still work well.
What do you do when you're not working? What gives you energy and takes your mind off things?
I spend a lot of time in the garden with my family and try to do something with my hands.
If you could wish for something for the TYPO3 community, what would it be?
More local events. And yes, with the organization of the TYPO3 Camp Mitteldeutschland I know how much work and costs are involved. But smaller, inexpensive events might also be exciting.
Was there a moment that really inspired or surprised you when working with TYPO3?
I love the Developer Days and Barcamps, unfortunately I'm currently at too few.
If someone is new to TYPO3, what tip would you give them?
Start with the Bootstrap Package. Benjamin does a great job with it. Then customize things.
Is there a resource, tool or website you would recommend to other TYPO3 users?
docs.typo3.org and the AI from jetbrains 😅

Hi, I'm Wolfgang.
I have been working with TYPO3 since 2006. Not in theory, but in real projects with real deadlines. I've probably had the problems you're having three times already.
At some point, I started putting my knowledge into video courses. Not because I like being in front of the camera, but because I kept hearing the same questions over and over again. There are now hundreds of videos. Every single one was the result of a specific question from a specific project.
What makes me different from a YouTube tutorial: I not only know the solution, but also the context. Why something works. When it doesn't work. And which mistakes you can avoid because I've already made them.
My participants use me as a sparring partner. Not in the sense of "call me anytime", but like this: You come to the live session with a specific problem, post your question in the community or watch the appropriate video. And get an answer that works because it comes from practical experience.
As a member of the TYPO3 Education & Certification Committee, I make sure that the certification exams are kept up to date. What is tested there flows directly into my courses.
