From May 8 to 10, 2026, the first TYPO3 camp in Baden-Württemberg in years will take place in Heidelberg. I'll tell you why camps are so valuable and why you should be there.

From May 8 to 10, 2026, the first TYPO3 camp in Baden-Württemberg in years will take place in Heidelberg. Unfortunately, I can't be there myself, but that's exactly why I want to tell you why you should go.

A camp for Baden-Württemberg

Until the Corona pandemic, TYPO3camp Stuttgart was a fixed date in my calendar. Unfortunately, it was not resumed after that. So I'm all the more pleased that a new team has now taken the initiative: THE CÄMP (yes, with Ä, as an allusion to "THE LÄND") is bringing the TYPO3 community in southern Germany together again.

The venue is the SRH campus in Heidelberg. I know most of the organizing team personally, either from the Stuttgart area or from TYPO3camp RheinRuhr. These are people who know how to put on a good camp.

Why I appreciate TYPO3 camps so much

I've been regularly attending camps all over Germany since 2012 and have also been to Vienna and Mallorca. And I can tell you: nowhere else can you get so much knowledge and training for so little money.

At a camp you meet the whole spectrum of the TYPO3 community. From users who have just started with TYPO3 to core developers or the maintainer of your favorite extension. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. Nobody bites, you can chat with everyone.

The special thing about the barcamp format is that the topics are not fixed in advance. Anyone can get involved, offer sessions or workshops, but also simply ask questions on topics that are on their mind. This makes it exciting and ensures that the content is always up-to-date and relevant. Typical topics at TYPO3 camps include extension development, performance optimization, upgrade strategies and deployment workflows.

And then there's the networking. It's amazing how many collaborations have been formed at camps or how many agencies have found new employees there. Some contacts develop into good acquaintances or even friendships.

Online formats are great, no question about it. But sometimes real contact in real life is simply irreplaceable. And there's plenty of fun to be had with the odd hoppy drink.

Why I can't be there myself

A TCCI team sprint is taking place this very weekend. This is the team in the TYPO3 Association's Education Committee that takes care of the Syllabus and the Integrator certification. We are adapting both for TYPO3 v14.

The sprint will take place at the jweiland.net office in Stuttgart. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jochen Weiland and his team there for their support and the facilities.

I'm annoyed that the dates overlap. We actually discussed in the TCCI team whether we should postpone the sprint. But it was simply not possible to find an alternative date that would suit everyone. So we decided to go ahead with the sprint. Even though we all would have liked to go to the camp.

And that's exactly why I'm writing this article: If I can't be there, I at least want to make sure you know about THE CÄMP.

The facts at a glance

  • What: THE CÄMP (TYPO3 Barcamp Baden-Württemberg)
  • When: May 8 to 10, 2026
  • Where: SRH Campus, Heidelberg
  • Tickets and info: typo3-the-camp.de

The camp starts on Friday evening with a relaxed warm-up to get to know each other. On Saturday, there will be a social event after the sessions, where the focus will be on informal exchange.

My recommendation

If you've never been to a TYPO3 camp before, give it a try. The price is fair, the community is open, and you're guaranteed to take something away with you. Ideas, inspiration, new contacts, maybe even new friends.

If you already have camp experience: You know what to expect. Heidelberg is a beautiful city, the organizing team is experienced, and after a long break, it's time for Baden-Württemberg to have its own camp again.

So: grab a ticket and tell your colleagues about it. The more people who come, the better the camp will be.

Hi, I'm Wolfgang.

I have been working with TYPO3 since 2006. Not in theory, but in real projects with real deadlines. I've probably had the problems you're having three times already.

At some point, I started putting my knowledge into video courses. Not because I like being in front of the camera, but because I kept hearing the same questions over and over again. There are now hundreds of videos. Every single one was the result of a specific question from a specific project.

What makes me different from a YouTube tutorial: I not only know the solution, but also the context. Why something works. When it doesn't work. And which mistakes you can avoid because I've already made them.

As a member of the TYPO3 Education Committee, I make sure that the certification exams are kept up to date. What is tested there flows directly into my courses.
