New TYPO3 certification model 2026: What's changing and what it means for you
Have the article read aloud.
New prices and a bundle model for TYPO3 certifications will apply from March 2026. What's changing, for whom it's worthwhile and why so many candidates fail on their first attempt.
A new pricing model for TYPO3 certifications will apply from March 2026. TYPO3 GmbH has revised the structure together with the Education Committee. What's behind it, for whom is it worthwhile, and why do so many candidates fail on their first attempt? A classification.
What has changed in concrete terms
Until now, it was simple: you booked a certification, had one attempt, and if it didn't work out, you paid again. The new model adds a Certification Bundle to this option.
The bundle costs 840 euros per person, is valid for two years and includes access to all TCCx certifications (Editor, Integrator, Developer, Consultant). In addition, there are mock exams for preparation, up to four online attempts and unlimited attempts at physical events such as the TYPO3 Developer Days.
The individual certifications remain the same, with adjusted prices:
- TCCE (Editor): 120 Euro
- TCCI (Integrator): 400 Euro
- TCCD (Developer): 600 Euro
- TCCC (Consultant): 800 euros
One attempt per booking. Membership and partner discounts continue to apply.
Why the change? The figures speak for themselves
A look at the figures makes it clear why the old model had its limits: in 2025, almost one in three candidates failed the exam on their first attempt. For Editor and Integrator certification, the rate was as high as 40 to 44 percent.
For those affected, this means: pay again, prepare again, take the exam again. This can quickly add up, especially for agencies with several employees.
Why so many editor and integrator candidates fail the test
At first glance, it is surprising that most candidates fail the Editor exam of all exams. The official figures provide no explanation for this. What follows is my personal assessment from practical experience. There are certainly other factors, but I think these two are particularly plausible.
Editors do not usually work with a standard TYPO3. Their backend has been customized by the implementing agency or integrator: Custom content elements, limited visibility, individual workflows. Many editors only know "their" TYPO3. However, the test is based on a standard TYPO3. If you don't know the standard fields and the standard behavior, you have a hard time.
In my opinion, the situation is somewhat different with the integrator. The problem here is probably underestimation. Especially for people who come from a development background, the Integrator certification looks like an "easy" certificate at first glance. But it is not. The exam covers a broad spectrum and requires solid preparation. If you don't get involved, you will fail.
As a member of the TCCI Task Force on the Education Committee, I can say that we are actively working on making the exam questions as practical as possible. It's not about esoteric specialist knowledge, but about things that are actually relevant to the everyday life of an integrator. That wasn't always the case in the past, but the direction is right.
That's exactly why my TYPO3 video courses are consistently based on the official syllabus and the content that is tested in the certification. The knowledge is mutually beneficial: what I learn from working on the exam questions flows into the courses. And vice versa.
For whom is the bundle worthwhile?
The bundle is particularly interesting for agencies and teams. The calculation examples in the original TYPO3 GmbH article clearly show this: a team with six employees pays around 3,640 euros for six certifications with individual certifications including repetitions. With the bundle: 5,040 euros for at least nine certifications over two years, without additional costs for repetitions.
Individual bookings are the better choice for those who are aiming for just one certification. However, this is not the target group of the bundle.
One point to keep in mind: The bundle must not tempt you to take the exam lightly. "If I fail, I'll just do it again" is not a good strategy. Thorough preparation remains the best approach. If you take your time and study in a structured way, you have a good chance of passing on your first attempt. This not only saves money, but also nerves. My video courses are designed to do just that: to work through the content of the syllabus in a structured and practical way so that you are well prepared for the exam.
Further changes at a glance
In addition to the new pricing model, there are a few organizational changes:
- Vouchers that have already been purchased remain valid
- Certifications will no longer be sold via the TYPO3 online store
- Booking and payment will be handled exclusively via my.typo3.org
- Existing certifications remain valid
Why TYPO3 certification is worthwhile
Regardless of the price model: TYPO3 certifications are valuable. For freelancers and solo freelancers, they can be a factor in getting higher hourly rates. For many clients, certifications are still an important quality feature.
It is becoming even more relevant for agencies. Public tenders often require a certain number of certified developers or integrators. Keyword Government Site Builder, which will become even more important in the future. Without certified employees, participation in such tenders is simply not possible.
And there is a side effect that is often underestimated: Preparing for certification forces you to get to grips with current techniques and methods. If you're stuck in day-to-day business, you quickly get stuck in old patterns because it works. Certification is a good opportunity to get out of this rut and put your own knowledge to the test.
Conclusion
The new certification model is a sensible step. It creates planning security, reduces the financial risk in the event of repetitions and facilitates access to multiple certifications. Whether the bundle or the individual certification is worthwhile depends on the individual situation.
What does not change: Good preparation remains the key. The exams are demanding, practical and are continuously being developed. Those who prepare seriously, whether with video courses, their own practice or both, are in a good position.

Hi, I'm Wolfgang.
I have been working with TYPO3 since 2006. Not in theory, but in real projects with real deadlines. I've probably had the problems you're having three times already.
At some point, I started putting my knowledge into video courses. Not because I like being in front of the camera, but because I kept hearing the same questions over and over again. There are now hundreds of videos. Every single one was the result of a specific question from a specific project.
What makes me different from a YouTube tutorial: I not only know the solution, but also the context. Why something works. When it doesn't work. And which mistakes you can avoid because I've already made them.
As a member of the TYPO3 Education Committee, I make sure that the certification exams are kept up to date. What is tested there flows directly into my courses.
